Η αρχή κάθε εβδομάδας είναι δύσκολη αλλά αυτή η εβδομάδα είναι μια ανάσα πριν τα Χριστούγεννα!

Ευτυχώς όμως που υπάρχουν πράγματα που μπορούν να μας χαλαρώνουν και να μας αποσπούν την προσοχή με ευχάριστο τρόπο όπως αυτές οι φωτογραφίες από διάφορες γωνίες του κόσμου.

Confinement equates to the confinement of energy, loss of confinement equates to the dissipation of energy and deceleration of the current.A turbidity current is a mixture of sand and water. These currents are arguably the most important sediment transport mechanism on the planet, capable of containing large (> 100 km3) quantities of sediment within a single current. They transport sediment from the continental shelf, sourcing a lot of their material from rivers, into the deep ocean. They are important because there are structures on the sea floor such as subsea cables and pipelines which, if a turbidity current passes by, can be dragged many metres (yards/miles for you yanks) from their original location. This puts stress on the cable/pipline terminals which can cause them to rupture or even sever entirely. Subsea cables can be used for a variety of things from internet to business transactions and are widely used to transfer information between countries. Obviously, if these become broken or damaged, they are costly to repair both in terms of their location (many metres (sorry, yards, feet, miles, whatever) under da sea) and the downtime for the businesses that are affected by the damage. Pipelines can transport all manner of things, some being especially nasty for the environment (e.g. oil) which can kill an inordinate number of waterfloofs. It's also bad for business, as you can imagine. An analogy for turbidity currents would be a snow avalanche, except instead of snow you have sand, and instead of air you have water.
